Remington Model 1841 "Mississippi Rifle" Muzzle Loading Civil War Rifle: Lockplate marked "Remington's Herkimer, NY", and "US 1851". Breech plug is marked "1850" and rear of barrel is marked "US" over "JPC" over "P". Rear sight is missing at lockplate and breech. Black Walnut stiock with brass barrel bands and brass patchbox. Appears to have an old repair made with screw of the stock. Barrel length is 33". Overall length of rifle is 48.5" long. Great patina. This rifle is often referred to as the "Mississippi Rifle", for its use by the 1st Mississippi regiment led by Jefferson Davis in the Mexican War. Provenance: From a personal museum in Gettysburg, PA.
